Using Express Transit with Apple Pay.

Express Transit is automatically enabled on your Apple device, so there's no setup required.

If you prefer to use your physical MetroCard to pay your fare, you can easily turn off Express Transit.

  1. Open Settings, scroll down, and tap Wallet & Apple Pay.
  2. Tap Express Transit Card.
  3. Tap None to disable Express Transit mode.

What device do I need to use Express Transit with Apple Pay?

You will need an iPhone 8 or later with iOS 13.6 or later, or an Apple Watch Series 3 or later with watchOS 6.2.8 or later.

Can I pay with Apple Pay on both iPhone and Apple Watch?

Yes. Just make sure that you have added a payment card to your iPhone and Apple Watch. You can add a card to Apple Watch with the Apple Watch app on your iPhone.

Can I use Express Transit mode for other payments?

No. Express Transit mode can only be used with OMNY readers at MTA bus and subway stations. Face ID, Touch ID or passcode will still be required when using Apple Pay at other locations.

Can I use weekly or monthly unlimited ride passes with my device?

No. You can only pay for single rides.

What happens if a MetroCard and my device are accidentally charged at the same time?

This is called card clash. To ensure that only your chosen payment method is charged, always keep your physical MetroCard separate from your Apple devices when paying at an OMNY reader.
